National Parks That Should Be on Every RV Owner’s Vacation List

For RV owners, summer brings lots of opportunities for adventure, and there are few better places to find new experiences, diverse wildlife, and abundant natural beauty than America’s incredible national parks.

Here are five national parks that should be on every RVers must-see list.

1. Yosemite National Park

One of the most popular national parks in the U.S., Yosemite in California is well-known for its waterfalls, granite cliffs, and giant sequoias. The park has more than 800 miles of trails to explore, ranging from easy walks to challenging hikes. For climbers, Yosemite offers a variety of routes up El Capitan and Half Dome, two of the most iconic formations in the park.

2. Grand Canyon National Park

Featuring incredible views, year-round warm temperatures, and exciting activities, Grand Canyon National is a great destination for RVers. Park activities include helicopter tours, wildland treks, whitewater rafting, wildlife parks, and well-known scenic attractions such as Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend. Of course, no trip to the park is complete without the breathtaking views of the Grand Canyon itself.

3. Acadia National Park

With its incredible beauty, diverse wildlife, and many recreational opportunities, Acadia National Park should be on every RV owner’s bucket list. Located in Maine, Acadia offers its visitors more than 47,000 acres to explore by foot, bike, boat, or car. Hike up Cadillac Mountain, explore the coastal beaches, or drift through the park’s many lakes and ponds to take in the diverse wildlife and incredible natural beauty. The park also has 61 beautiful RV sites available.

4. Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Straddling the border between North Carolina and Tennessee, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of the most popular national parks in the country. And for good reasons— the park boasts an incredible variety of scenery, from lush forests and wildflower-covered meadows to towering mountains and cascading waterfalls. There are also plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation, including hiking, camping, fishing, and horseback riding. RVers will find that motorhomes and trailers are welcome at almost any campground in the park.

5. Everglades National Park

With over 1.5 million acres of wilderness, diverse wildlife, and breathtaking scenery, Everglades National Park offers visitors more than 300 miles of hiking trails and activities, including birdwatching, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. There are no set trails or itineraries, so visitors can explore the Everglades at their own pace. Visiting by RV is a great way to experience all the park has to offer.

Tips Before Traveling

Before you go, below are some tips that can make your national park visit even better:
  • Get tickets well in advance, especially over holiday weekends
  • Check current park conditions for info on attractions, weather, and traffic
  • E-Bikes can put more of the park’s beauty within easy reach
  • Off-season visits may reduce wait times and ticket prices
  • Check for RV size restrictions to avoid being turned away
  • Download the NPS Trip Planning Guide from the National Park Service to increase safety and fun

From towering mountains to desert landscapes, these five parks offer something for everyone, so pack up your RV and get ready for an unforgettable journey through some of America's most beautiful natural wonders.
