Newcoast Director of Yacht Insurance Honored With Outstanding Mariner Award

CLEARWATER, FL (January 4, 2023) – Newcoast’s Director of Yacht Insurance, Laura Sherrod, receives the Outstanding Mariner Award from the Fort Lauderdale Mariners Club.  

Laura has been a licensed insurance agent since 1987. She is a third-generation insurance agent who started in the business working at her father’s insurance agency part-time during summers in high school. Laura worked her way up to an underwriter for their yacht insurance program for yachts valued from $25,000 to $10,000,000. She finished her college career at Florida International University with a degree in finance. After graduating she returned to her father’s agency to learn the business from him and his partners.

The Fort Lauderdale Mariners Club is a non-profit, non-political organization devoted to promoting friendly associations among its members to encourage high standards of business practice throughout the community, and to provide a forum to improve the marine industry in South Florida. Laura joined the club in 1990 after hearing about the seminar they hold before the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in October each year. Laura joined the seminar committee and has been involved in the growth of the event, which is widely considered the most important recreational marine insurance seminar of the year, with over 700 attendees and guests annually. 

The Outstanding Mariner Award is a lifetime achievement award and is given out based on merit and not annually. This achievement came as a surprise to Laura, but she is honored to have her name alongside fellow great Mariners.
